Sort of. [And then, because he's not sure he ever actually told Sasuke:] …my name is Jack Frost. Before I ascended, I was a winter spirit.
[That's the easiest way to explain it. He also isn't too surprised to hear about the eye.] …that was the eye you lost here? [Well shit. He's going to ask more questions, but he also owes Sasuke so he'll at least answer the question.]
…after I messed everything up, I left. Ran away, actually. I'd let a bunch of people down, put everybody in danger, and ruined everything. When I left, I fought the guy who was trying to bring on another dark age. Name's Pitch. Pitch Black. Anyway, he's the one who attacked the warren and destroyed everything before we could get everything ready for Easter. Kids started to give up and stopped believing in the Easter Bunny, kind of the way they'd already started to think Tooth wasn't real. Pitch…I don't know, he got into my head and when I saw him again, I tried to fight him on my own.
He said I had a bad habit of interfering and wanted my staff so I couldn't anymore. He--he had Baby Tooth, and he wasn't going to let her go until I gave him the staff. She escaped, but Pitch broke the staff in half to try and depower me before Baby Tooth and I fell into a fissure in the ice. […] It broke because I ruined everything trying to do things myself.
[The knot to Sasuke’s brows gradually unfurls, softening his face. He doesn’t know the people anymore than Jack knows who he may happen to talk about. But... the story, he gets. The idea. His own story isn’t entirely different at this time back home.
Ruining so much. Standing on a statue of Madara in the Valley, waiting for Naruto.]
If it’s broken... you can still fix it. [His voice is quiet, his remaining eye cast down.] I thought I knew... how my story was going to end. Hated by everyone as I destroyed my village so I could rebuild it. So... I could begin a revolution in the ninja world. Standing however far in the darkness I needed to be for that goal.
So my brother’s struggle wouldn’t have been in vain. But now... I think... I can have a different story. Our villages... Our society. They’re broken, but I... think they can be fixed.
[This is the sort of lesson he was hoping Sasuke would come to understand on his own, truthfully, so Jack lets Sasuke speak for himself. He watches him quietly, letting him sort out his thoughts and nodding along.]
...I thought I needed to know who I was to understand who I am, and that idea consumed me until I acted out and ruined everything. The other guardians had been working to protect childhood and kids around the world for hundreds of years and I had a hand in their demise.
If I could go back, I think I'd know how to fix it. But I'm here. So all I can do is fix things here. [There's a pause.] ...you've learned a lot in your time here, Sasuke. Pretty sure you can have a different story, too. Everything that you've done here is one step closer to that. [Including murder, because it's still a lesson. Jack's less critical of that because he's made enough mistakes of his own that being upset about Sasuke's actions isn't really on his radar.]
[His smile is faint and very wry. He feels bad Jack has no opportunity to go back and change things, not now, being able to see things... with clearer eyes that he thought he had already.]
Senri wants me to go back to Tokyo with them. But... [The frown comes, and his eye lowers.] We're not... anything alike. Me and them. I don't think... it's somewhere I belong.
And they're... [He shakes his head.] I don't know if it's a part of that story... My story is... with Naruto, if he has what it takes to become Hokage.
[There's a nod because he remembers their last few conversations.]
...if you get that eye working again...what will you do? [A beat.] I wasn't anything like the other Guardians either. I wasn't sure I belonged there, and sometimes I still don't know. There's always time to figure that out, but you were in the middle of an important story with Naruto. Makes sense to focus on finishing that chapter first, even if the story changes.
[Reaching up, he lets the tips of his calloused fingers brush just under the stitched eye.] I don't know... [He's been thinking about it for a while. The end. He thought, for a moment, he knew. He was certain.
The love arrow... It had run him into a ditch of stubbornness. Going back to Konoha was the only thing he had, he was sure. And now...]
The rinnegan... It can create portals to other dimensions. Kaguya's, I think, but... it may be possible to do others I've been in. I don't know... if Shibuya would work. I think I would have to go back with Senri and Takaomi and then, from there, go back to Konoha. To have that link.
And I'd have to practice. I don't know if I can do it on the first try. I can't get stuck in their world... I have to go back, for Naruto, for our village. We need to put an end to the Infinite Tsukuyomi.
But... if I go back to Konoha first... I'll never see them again.
Only once. Sakura... I was stuck in another dimension when we were fighting together. I used a body replacement technique on Sakura's jacket to get out. But I could tell... dimensional travel was possible. I can feel it in the power of the rinnegan.
[His eye flickers up to Jack and the staff when the ice catches his attention. He frowns, but watches.]

[Ice and frost weave their way into the wood, stitching the staff back together. Jack's focused on that, but he hums in thought.]
…I think you and I both know that you don't need your wish to accomplish what you originally wanted when you got into this game. You've learned so much here to make it possible on your own. So…why not wish for full understanding of the rinnegan's power? Cut out the practice a little.
[Brows together, Sasuke watches the ice and frost weave up through the staff. His mind briefly says “magic?” but the more logical side ridicules himself. It’s a technique... like their own ninja ones at home. Energies. Nature transformation.]
I... could, but... No, it’s something I want to learn on my own. I want to get there myself. No shortcuts. I’ll use my wish for something else.
I think so. [Another blip of blue light and the staff is in one piece. He's dropping the subject because Sasuke's the way he is.] What do you think? Looks good to me.
[As a weapon, it looks a little strange, but Sasuke is a ninja, and a ninja doesn't underestimate what things can be used to bring a world of hurt. Eyes, for example.]

I don't know yet. If I even get one, at the end of this... If I don't, it won't matter.

Fine. Maybe I'll get something. [A nod at Jack.] Did you finish?

[There's a grin.] ...thanks, Sasuke. [For what? Let's not ask.]
