Eight. Variation in Tactics:

[Sasuke arrives with nothing else but himself, pace easy. He's in a sukajan jacket; black, the back sporting the stitched embroidery of a silver serpent twisting up through the ribs of a skeleton and a bunch of purple flowers. He has his hands in the pockets of it.]

"The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable."

I found it in the study. I've been reading it.

No one in particular.

[Slowly, Sasuke turns to start perusing the armory. He looks over the weapons.] Whoever may want me dead for what I did. [He takes up one of the swords and twists it around in his hand before putting it back.]

If I hadn’t picked Justice, you would have been my next choice.

[i lived bitch]

I know. To be a ninja, you have to have good wits. But... I wanted justice when I came here. For my brother, against the village that used him like gloves. Turning him into a criminal so they could keep their hands clean.

Using an Uchiha to get rid of our clan, one they had already ostracized from the village. [It still makes him angry, even now. His fists balls tightly at his side, turning the knuckles white.] When I fought my brother, I had to be smarter because he was stronger. I didn't have the eternal sharingan then. He could have wiped the floor with me.

I never joined you because I respected what you wanted in your world more than using your powers for my goal.

[Again, Sasuke takes out a sword and tests the weight and feel of it in his hand before putting it back. Too long. Too heavy. Nothing feels quite like his old sword yet. Something shorter and easier to wield.]

That depends on what you mean. What happens here? What happens in my world?

[Pausing, Sasuke follows Cunning's indication to the other wall. He walks over to survey the weapons there. Reaching up, he strokes the hilt of a few, as if considering.

His fingers finally wrap around something like an uchigatana. When he brings it down and out, it flows perfectly in his hand, as if it's something he's use to handling.]

If people here aren't idiots, they'll try to talk and decide on what god to believe in; the one who will create a peaceful balance. But they are idiots. They had to be ruled into talking to other gods, or talking about gods, or they made the decision they don't care and will stay with their initial god anyway.

And you all, who have just as many stupid disagreements between you, will ruin your world because none of you can completely work together. [He turns around.] So I think the question is, what happens now for you?

I don't buy that. It didn't work for us. I can tell it hasn't worked for the entirety of you all.

[Flipping the sword over his wrist and catching it, he drops suddenly into a stance, slicing it several times through the air to test its versatility. Satisfied, he straightens back up and looks it over, resting the blade on the back of his hand.

It'll do.

He points the sword at the book.]
Keep reading it.

[ADHD sucks, huh. Sadly, Sasuke doesn't know what an audiobook is, so he'll just drop it. The sword, of course, he's definitely going to keep. But he won't be naughty, and he'll sign it out before he leaves.]

If Merriment won, would you do what it took to help him guide the world he's built for the rest of you?
