[ . . . and senri will just let his chin rest on the baby's shoulder as he looks over at sasuke. he tells sean first, in a conspiratorial stage whisper:] I think Sasuke's feeling left out. I'm gonna tell him.
[and he hums a happy little note]
Sean and I played a lot of pretend, because we don't know a lot of anything that's real. We want to play with everyone a lot, and reach out to the people who are nice to us, so that we can all be a family together. But...
[senri glances down at sean and offers a soft smile.]
We're figuring it out. We promised that we'll learn how to be more genuine, so that we don't need to hide or fake for everyone else. Even if it means we have to figure out who we are, step by step. We'll do it together.
[and he glances back up to sasuke, tilting his head]
You can join us too, you know. If the cutie says it's okay.
[Sean looks at Senri as he speaks, and then turns around so he can face Sasuke directly. He tries to be brave, and not to stammer, at least not so much.]
Even...even if it's only for right now, for a couple of weeks, if you'll be a part of my new family, Sasuke, I'd be really happy. I'd be so grateful.
[Sasuke’s dark, mismatched eyes shift to look away from their reflection in the window. He isn’t angry. There’s a very worried, cautious, uncertain heaviness to his expression.
It isn’t that he wanted to ever pretend to be the bad guy for the sake of being bad, because he enjoyed it. Really, he cared too much—about his friends, his new family. He cared so much that he was afraid they would die solely from being close to him. And he was afraid of being weak, too. Not strong enough to protect them, not strong enough to end Itachi with his vengeance.
He chose his goal over being happy. And... he was doing it again, wasn’t he? For the sake of the ninja world.
Finally, he turns to face the other two, and he closes the short distance between himself and Sean. The walk and the expression is much like the looming intimiation he had before. He stops in front of Sean and peers down, eyes searching the helmet. A hand lifts.
He taps two fingers against the middle of Sean’s “forehead.”]
[ . . . . despite everything, Senri isn't worried. when Sean asks Sasuke to join their little ragtag family of two, he's not scared at all of what the answer might be. he settles for continuing to hold onto Sean from behind, hugging him close even as Sasuke approaches and -
he's so familiar with this little gesture by now. the little two finger tap, and it makes a smile bloom across Senri's face. his eyes flick up to Sasuke's and the expression he wears is a grateful one. then he glances back to Sean - ]
... looks like our family just got a little bigger.
[and senri's heart aches in his chest at the thought - it's warm, and sweet, and a little painful, and it cuts through the cold for at least this little moment.]
[Completely unintentionally, Sean's shoulders stiffen as Sasuke approaches so quietly, but then, as his fingers hit the center of his helmet, between the unblinking grates-for-eyes, he lets out a relieved, happy laugh. Even with an expression that's just as devoid of emotion as his mask, it's clear that he must be smiling.]
I'll keep waiting until then--we both will, won't we, Senri? It's hard to wait when I feel so happy and excited, but I can do it without complaining.
[It’s not the biggest or best, Sasuke’s smile. He hasn’t smiled in such a long time, he may have forgotten how. But he has edged more into smiling this last week than... as far as he can remember. So he smiles, to himself mostly, a faint upturn of his lips which does so many wonders for his disposition.
The ring on his finger swirls dark blue and purple.]
We’ll be back down by the time you actually bother looking out at everything. [He’s... teasing!] Let’s go to the house. [He glances over at Senri.]
The one we went in last time.
[With the silly mirrors and spinning tunnels and small-giant rooms.]
[it's a little unfair, senri thinks, how he thinks that he'd do anything to see that smile. it's not a thought that lingers for long, but given his natural inclination to smile back, it may not be something he needs to actively think about so much as he instinctively feels - ]
Are we just retracing our steps? Ahaha, okay - we'll do everything that we did then, but this time better.
[and he hugs Sean close to him again, bobbing left and right affectionately since he's definitely the more openly affectionate between the two of them]
Did you see the carousel, Seanbon? [pronounced like bonbon....] We can do that too, if you want.
And I want to take a picture with the three of us before the day's over, okay?
