[the tone he puts on is actually pretty good, if not a little mawkish.

The innkeeper's wife stops to see if the Queen needs anything, and if all the provisions are up to her royal expectations.
[ ludger laughs too, even as he gets up to refill ambition's bowl. any other takers? get it while it's hot! ]
Rostin will take the chance to ask the innkeeper's wife if she'd be interested in purchasing any wares, or... if there's been any interesting rumors around town?
