Sipp asked me whom Shang Qinghua was the most fake with, and I honestly answered that I didn't know—but he sure was judgy where Senri was concerned.

This binch is dangerous!

The moment Senri said that his specialty was acting, Shang Qinghua took everything to come out of that mouth superficially. Part of the reason he was so insistent about lending his ear for Senri was to secure a positive relationship, because he honestly couldn't tell if Senri would prove to be dangerous in the future. Was Senri's bubbly disposition his natural self or something more performative? For most of their interactions, Shang Qinghua always felt a little uneasy.

The more apparent it became that Senri had a crowd rallying around him, the more that apprehension grew. Evidently, Senri's tactic was to surround himself with stans. No matter how sweet or friendly someone was, they were taking part in a contest involving murder. How can anyone lower their guard? On the other hand, it did seem to him that Senri's care for his friends were genuine in spite of all his awfully snide comments and attempts at splitting (intended or not), so Shang Qinghua didn't think he was so bad.

When Senri asked for his alignment, he thought about lying, only to decide against it. It was risky to reveal his alignment, but the repercussions of that would probably be less than if he were caught in a lie for someone as well-informed as Senri. Senri could talk—aggressively. That meant he had the necessary tools to collect information, so lying in the face of that would have been absolutely stupid. (Also, he didn't want to get punched out by Majima for crossing his son.) The one time he did lie was when Ambition told him to, which gave him the backbone.

There was that moment, though, when Senri wondered if it would be better to keep his mouth shut, and that was actually something Shang Qinghua could relate to, since his approach to life has always been about not rocking the boat. The advice he gave went against his personal code of conduct, because the last thing he wanted was to encourage lying in the contest. This seemed like a decent shot at earning (keeping?) Senri's favor, too.

Hearing that Senri meant to take on Ray's wish, Shang Qinghua grew a little more partial in that he would support Senri for a win if possible. No matter how real or fake he was, Senri truly cared about Ray.

For the final week, Ambition hatched a plan to use Advancement Opportunity at the very last second. Shortly thereafter, Shang Qinghua had that discussion with Senri in the bathroom and was over the moon when Senri offered to give him just the right gossip for using that power. In the end, they didn't get to have this follow-up chat, but Shang Qinghua decided that Senri would be one of his potential targets—if nothing else, having that dream to fork over his coin could be treated as Shang Qinghua's invitation for him to join Ambition, if it looked like she was going to win.

That didn't turn out so well. In fact, it was completely useless! Which is why Shang Qinghua will never tell Senri the truth. Heck, no. Majima and Sasuke are right there, dear god.

tl;dr Shang Qinghua was suspicious of Senri the whole time, but he was also suspicious of everyone, so it was nothing against him. It occasionally struck Shang Qinghua that Senri seemed to have bitten off more than he could chew.
