Cola I'm going to be real and say I still sincerely have zero idea how exactly Madoka broke through to him, but she sure did!! By all means, Madoka should have immediately sent him running because she's too pure for this world, but their one thread about life and death and what it means to be a magical girl and the passage of people was a LOT. I don't know if it was ever really made clear but prior to ascending Cunning had actually died in his own world so talking to Madoka actually was a huge changing point for him. Not to mention she was incredibly intelligent and well-spoken even if she didn't feel like she was.

Mostly she was incredibly honest with him and that was probably the thing that really earned his respect. She didn't seem scared of him and also the fact she stayed for another week actually meant a lot to him. It made sense why she'd aligned with Sincerity but at the same time he was just like "you know, she's just a good person."

Like I told you and Nik if it was anyone but Guy and Madoka who went after him he would have 100% attacked them while he was akumatized, but because she'd made that connection and reminded him of someone from his old life he let his guard down and started thinking that yeah, maybe there really is another way to do things.

And that's how Madoka Kaname broke Luke Castellan and put him back together.
