You know what I'm talking about. A pact between me and Ruin to take down Sincerity, or whatever? Like Ruin's even agreeable enough to make pacts with anyone. She keeps herself to her own business, and I keep myself to mine. I don't know what Sincerity heard to think that that's true--because I'm sure he is under the impression that it's true, because I know he wouldn't lie to you about what he heard, but it isn't. Someone fed him something easy enough to be believable.

Hmmm. I think he did mention that someone else told him that - but I'd be surprised that anyone would have the gall to spread something like that about you and Ruin in the first place. I'm not surprised. You know what happened with Chuuya. I'll tell you what I've been telling anyone else who asks about that, if you want, but the short version is he over exaggerated.

[She shrugs, but takes his arm like this isn't the most uncomfortable interaction in the world.]

Just because I have a disorderly power doesn't necessarily mean that I like it. This was all designed to give everyone different assets to use for the competition, after all. And anyway, nobody needs to be under the influence of anything to spread lies about someone. Some people are just awful.

Any special reason why you think they'd spread lies about you then? Or do you think it's just a bad first impression like with Chuuya-san?

I'll be honest, I've barely spoken to anyone after Chuuya--nobody wants to see me. Aside from Takaomi, I've even had to accost all my own followers just to introduce myself.

[She takes a deep breath.]

It's probably someone who's acting on behalf of their god. I mean, like, not necessarily that they were asked to...after all, we all know Love didn't ask Itachi to murder anyone. I'd guess someone's just capitalizing on the opportunity. Two goddesses that sound like an obvious disaster? The odds have been stacked against them from the beginning, so might as well just isolate them further so there's less competition.

It might be a little weird at first - but a lot of acquaintanceships are, right? If we can keep talking, and keep getting to know each other though, I think we could be friends.

I don't just say that because I'm doubting you. I've just, like, had bad experiences with that in the past: people pretending to be my friend just to hurt me. I'd kind of rather not go down that rabbit hole again.

... I know that lying seems bad, right off the bat. I've been thinking about the nature of lies lately too.

But... I never lie to hurt anyone - I don't think there's ever something I could want from that. If I lie, it's so that I can talk to people and see their faces light up when it's about a topic they love. Or so I can protect people who are important to me, because sometimes a lie is easier than the truth.
