I should be doing that, shouldn't I? [The tone's melancholy, and yet.] I can't make your choices for you, kiddo, no matter how much I try. I could tell you everything I want to see happen with this game and why I think I'd be the best person for it but…the truth is I don't know if I am yet.
[Honesty seems to be valued here.] And anyway I know how annoying it can be to have someone trying to recruit you when you don't feel like you get a real choice. I'd rather do it this way. [A gesture between the two of them.] Talking to you guys, letting you decide for yourself without the bells and whistles.
it makes senri pause as he rolls the idea around in his head. senri frowns, but more in thought than any dissatisfaction when the answers he's received.]
If you're being honest with me... thanks.
[he likes that, ironically.]
... How come you agreed to be a god then, if you didn't know for sure that you'd be the best fit? How come you're not sitting out like Passhi?
[Merriment doesn't move, but there's a little bit of tension disappearing all the same. It's a well-received answer, it seems, and that means a lot.]
I didn't have anything to go back to. [It's a brief answer.] I was offered the choice and I took it because I thought maybe this time things would be different than before.
Maybe. Rules say we can't tell you too much at once, especially if you're not one of ours. [Still, they don't seem bothered by that.]
This is the first time in a long while I've been around so many people I can talk to. I'll be here for anyone who wants to come back. [So yes, please come by and play games with them or just chat or whatever, Senri.] And even if I'm not here, the room's all yours.
Awesome! Then I'm definitely craving a round of Mariokart right now - I'll show you how to play, you'll love it.
[dumb bunny]
Oh last question though...
Any advice? I know Cheri said that you can't give information away willy-nilly... but gods know the rules and each other best right now, right? I'd really rather not kick it early... so I want to know if there's anything I should know right away.
Sweet. [Merriment's all for that and actually shifts in their chair to a crouch like they're ready to get up, but Senri continues and Merriment pauses all movements.]
Advice? [Sure you want that, Senri?] The best piece of advice I can give you is start trying to get to know every god you can. You learn about the gods, you'll have a better chance trying to figure out who might be aligned with them. All of us value different things and all of us hand-picked you specifically because we saw potential. If you want to survive, make yourself as visible as possible.
[what if that happens already? what if no matter how many people he meets, there's no one will keep him together when he needs it? what if there's no one to notice when he's falling apart?

senri didn't see that coming.]
... can I ask what you mean by 'before'?
no subject
Before. [But then there's another weird pause.] Maybe some other time.
[Looks like the "can't spill too much too fast" rule's come into play here.]
no subject
Like... maybe next week some other time?
[and he offers a smile]
I'd like to come back and keep playing games, if you're still in need of partners, you know?

Are you sure? Doesn't that just sort of invite a bigger target on my back?
[HE'S KIND OF ANNOYING]
no subject
Isn't that better than fading away and nobody giving you a second thought?
no subject
he doesn't say any of that, of course.]
... mm, you're right.
Ooookay! Mariokart time!
no subject
Mariokart time! [And Merriment leaps out of their chair, moving toward one of the televisions with the game console set up.
And then Senri probably proceeded to watch Merriment fall off of Rainbow Road like six times.]
