I could probably make something that would force them to change their intended target completely, or something that'll effectively bamboozle an attempted attack. For the latter, eeehh well, either they'd get discouraged or pick someone else, but that's on them. Not much I can do about free will.
So, plan A: murderer still murders, saved victim none the wiser. Plan B: foiled murderer may or may not murder, but saved victim is definitely gonna know that they'd nearly croaked.
Unfortunately, even that's a bit too much to ask. Anyone who decides to kill in the first place has their own agenda, so they're going to do what continues to meet that agenda. If you have your own agenda, you can't force it on them. You'll have to get your own hands dirty.
... That might be workable, because I was going to ask to redirect it to me. So, how about this: if the person with the item is targeted, I'll be alerted.
