but as much as he thinks indulgence could maaaybe take it down a notch or two, he can't really fault him? it shocks him how much he agrees with his patron's philosophy. why spend your time worrying about everyone around you when taking care of yourself takes up 90% of your life? it's a viewpoint that majima has encountered in the past, and the person who presented it then left a big mark on him... coming across it again in indulgence almost like a bit of divine deja vu.

Hey, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not always exactly the easiest to talk to, but that doesn't mean I'm a liar. Keeping track of all the stories you're making up for people? That takes waaay too much effort. If I want to lie about something I'll have someone else do it for me.
