Would if I could, my man. Another one of those "rules".
[You can hear the disdain in the word.]
Figuring out who's who is supposed to be part of the challenge, I guess. But, hey, at least we're not one of the suckers stuck with only two followers. Wouldn't that be a pain? Ha!
Pity's a waste of energy, and an eyesore to boot. Why pity a horse with a broken leg when it'll suffer less being put out of its misery?
[The god shrugs.]
Some of the others, if you ever talk to them you'll see, they don't have a clue what it takes to run anything, let alone an entire world. They're just kidding themselves, building up false hope, making the fall that much steeper.
[ without meaning to, majima raises his hand to cover his eyepatch and the lack of an eye underneath. pity didn't get him shit after he'd gotten out of his year of imprisonment; he bounced back because he fought like fucking hell.
... he lowers his arm again and just shakes his head. ]
Can't think of a reason I'd ever chat 'em up when I'm already spoken for.
[Finally swinging his feet off the table, Indulgence claps his hands together.]
I knew I made a good choice bidding for you--you've got the right kind of attitude, you know? I can tell this is going to be a profitable relationship for the both of us.
[Indulgence rests his cheek into his palm, tapping idly at the gold plating of his mask with a fingertip.]
Let's see. There's nothing stopping you from saying whatever you want to whoever you want because of the whole gods can't say who is or isn't a part of their following thing. So you can lie about your allegiance to get close to others and so long as the whole team hasn't already assembled--which is incredibly unlikely--and nobody will be able to contradict you.

So it's all about figurin' out who you can trust an' who you wouldn't mind throwin' off a cliff. The twelve of ya really didn't make this a walk in the park.
[ that sounds like a thing that smart people keep track of. majima is not a smart person (at least, not that kind of smart person). he's not in the mood for thinking too hard about things right at this moment, so tucked away into the back of his mind that information goes. ]
Last question, for now. What can ya tell me about Patience-han? She ain't like the rest of the gods.
I can tell you that she won't tell anyone anything about herself. At least, not anything that really clues you in to much about her. I can't think of a single one of us that I've actively seen her getting buddy-buddy with. Total lone-wolf type, that one.
[Then, one more thought as an almost carelessly added aside.]
Not too bad on the eyes underneath that mask though.
[ blah blah the loss of nuance due to untranslatable concepts but for whatever it's worth, as casual as the comment seems, he ends his comment with the same specific inflection he'd use if speaking to his family's patriarch. ]
[Careful, Majima. Give Indulgence an inch and he'll give you a mile of not knowing how to shut the fuck up.]
Boss. Ya know, I really like the sound of that. Not that I'm not used to different forms of reverence and flattery, but can't say I've ever been called boss.

Almost makes me feel sorry for 'em. But pityin' people never got anyone anywhere, now did it?

[ he smiles, wondering if the expression is reflected on the god's face under the mask. ]
Got anythin' else you can share with me without breakin' the rules?

What kind of rules do you want me to clarify?

I mean, whatever helpful info you're allowed to tell me would be pretty nice.

[Bullshit heckin rules!]
Her? Eh.

he lets a beat pass. ]
Guess I lied about that last question thing. Why do ya wear the masks? Do ya all got somethin' to hide?
no subject
[He has no idea?]
I think there was some kind of argument about how some of us would probably use our appearances to gain followers through different biases.
[Indulgence scoffs.]
Come on! If you're beautiful, and if people want to follow you because you're beautiful, what makes that any less valid than any other reason?
[Let Indulgence Be Beautiful!]

Don'tcha literally have another deity who is Beauty?

[He throws his hands up in the air.]
These rules are completely uncool!
