Thanks. [They lean back, inclining their head a little and even with the mask in place there's a very obvious grin in their tone.] Can't take everything seriously all the time, can we? If you guys are here for weeks on end, might as well give you something fun to do in your down time.
Right you are! I've already been spending a ton of time in here and - oh, did you already know that?
[like realtalk senri pulled taka into this room to play games over the weekend because it's what felt most like home. and he actually isn't familiar with how much the gods may or may not know?]
I kind of keep track of who's coming and going, yeah. [It's their domain, it only makes sense.] But this weekend was a little busy for a lot of us. We tried to give you guys some space until you came to us.
[There's an almost awkward pause.] If there's anything you think I can improve, I'm all ears.
I haven't played a lot of these before. [They're curious, mostly.] They just looked fun and I've seen them around. I thought you guys would like them, too, but I'm still learning how to play the consoles.
Then after I ask some questions and we chat a little, do you wanna play a few rounds? I've played a lot of these - especially the video games. So if you want some company and a chance to learn, I'm definitely up for it!
[There's a laugh because Senri's pretty easy to get along with and it sort of feels like a promise he'll stick around for a while. Nevertheless, questions first. Merriment knows how this works.]
Yeah, we know. All of us are aware of where you guys are ranked and who's aligned where.
[But they relax anyway.] You seemed like the kind of person who would have aligned well with me, but I can see why you chose the way you did. It was a good choice.
I should be doing that, shouldn't I? [The tone's melancholy, and yet.] I can't make your choices for you, kiddo, no matter how much I try. I could tell you everything I want to see happen with this game and why I think I'd be the best person for it but…the truth is I don't know if I am yet.
[Honesty seems to be valued here.] And anyway I know how annoying it can be to have someone trying to recruit you when you don't feel like you get a real choice. I'd rather do it this way. [A gesture between the two of them.] Talking to you guys, letting you decide for yourself without the bells and whistles.
it makes senri pause as he rolls the idea around in his head. senri frowns, but more in thought than any dissatisfaction when the answers he's received.]
If you're being honest with me... thanks.
[he likes that, ironically.]
... How come you agreed to be a god then, if you didn't know for sure that you'd be the best fit? How come you're not sitting out like Passhi?
[Merriment doesn't move, but there's a little bit of tension disappearing all the same. It's a well-received answer, it seems, and that means a lot.]
I didn't have anything to go back to. [It's a brief answer.] I was offered the choice and I took it because I thought maybe this time things would be different than before.
Maybe. Rules say we can't tell you too much at once, especially if you're not one of ours. [Still, they don't seem bothered by that.]
This is the first time in a long while I've been around so many people I can talk to. I'll be here for anyone who wants to come back. [So yes, please come by and play games with them or just chat or whatever, Senri.] And even if I'm not here, the room's all yours.
Awesome! Then I'm definitely craving a round of Mariokart right now - I'll show you how to play, you'll love it.
[dumb bunny]
Oh last question though...
Any advice? I know Cheri said that you can't give information away willy-nilly... but gods know the rules and each other best right now, right? I'd really rather not kick it early... so I want to know if there's anything I should know right away.
Sweet. [Merriment's all for that and actually shifts in their chair to a crouch like they're ready to get up, but Senri continues and Merriment pauses all movements.]
Advice? [Sure you want that, Senri?] The best piece of advice I can give you is start trying to get to know every god you can. You learn about the gods, you'll have a better chance trying to figure out who might be aligned with them. All of us value different things and all of us hand-picked you specifically because we saw potential. If you want to survive, make yourself as visible as possible.
[what if that happens already? what if no matter how many people he meets, there's no one will keep him together when he needs it? what if there's no one to notice when he's falling apart?

[and senri will hop right in, and honestly this is. unfortunately the room where he's been spending a lot of his time so he's extra happy]
This place is yours? Thanks so much for it! You have great taste!

[though senri will glance down to the game of Life in front of them and offer up a smile]
Do you like board games like this more than video games?

[well he didn't see that coming]

But riiight. Questions first. [A hand reaches forward to push one of the little game-car pieces forward.] Shoot.

[why are there two lonely souls just hanging out, just wondering]
Do you know who I'm aligned with? Do other gods know exactly where every one of us non-gods is in the game?
no subject
Yeah, we know. All of us are aware of where you guys are ranked and who's aligned where.
no subject
Ranked....?
[oh but also]
Oh, but then... I did just want to say thanks for extending your hand out to me. It made me really happy, even though I couldn't take it then.

no subject
Before. [But then there's another weird pause.] Maybe some other time.
[Looks like the "can't spill too much too fast" rule's come into play here.]
no subject
Like... maybe next week some other time?
[and he offers a smile]
I'd like to come back and keep playing games, if you're still in need of partners, you know?

Are you sure? Doesn't that just sort of invite a bigger target on my back?
[HE'S KIND OF ANNOYING]
no subject
Isn't that better than fading away and nobody giving you a second thought?
no subject
he doesn't say any of that, of course.]
... mm, you're right.
Ooookay! Mariokart time!
