Nobody is defined by their names alone. Merriment can be melancholy, and I wouldn't consider myself as close-minded as the term "pious" would lead you to believe. Someone else told me...that they think it would have been better to call me "Hope".
I don't know--none of us got any say...but it might have to do with my past. I was the head of a religious order, though it wasn't of my own volition. Just the role I was meant to play. Ultimately...it's just the concept of belief as a whole that's important to me.
Believing in general. For me...my strongest beliefs were always in people themselves--their ability to grow, change, learn and do good. Those qualities in my friends, especially, always kept me going no matter how dark things may have been.
I'm glad you understand. It can be different, I think, for those of us who have abnormal circumstances of being brought into the world. We look at humanity from a different lens. One that humans, themselves, may see as irrational or naive.
I'm not. Actually, I was created as a replica to take the place of an important boy who was suffering from a terminal illness. I only lived for about two years before I ascended as a god.

Actually, it was the cause of a lot of suffering in my life and the lives of others I cared about. It was painful and...meaningless. But I wouldn't be alive without it, either. And I accepted who and what I was. What else could I do?

I know exactly what you mean. If it weren't for the friends I made...I don't know if I'd have ever found the courage to follow my own heart instead of letting those who created me use me as a puppet for their own purposes. Finding those who inspire you to live...it truly is a blessing, isn't it?

I was so lost when I first gained sentience. All I knew was that I didn't want to die. I didn't have a plan, my body was so weak I couldn't walk. I had to crawl during my attempted escape. I wasn't a puppet, but I was a battery.
Without Rider or Ruler I never would've thought of having desires of my own.
[He hesitates, but then reaches out to put his hand on Sieg's.]
It's...confusing, being brought into the world in such a way. Terrifying, even. I hope the same thing for him...for anyone like us, in any way. I know this contest has taken many tragic turns, but nonetheless I think it's a wonderful opportunity to learn from all kinds of people. I hope you're each able to find something that will help you better understand yourselves.
[He allows it, looking at Piety's hand on top of his own. It would've been so strange that anybody would bother touching him like that when he was first made... He slowly relaxes.]
Free will... it's a scarier thing than most people realize. To know what your purpose is but be terrified of it and run... humans don't know that. They can find their own purpose, they aren't made for anything specific. They just are. It's different.
I want to learn about the gods and the people here.
