I truly am sorry to leave you on this note, in whichever way it may happen. If I had known this would happen, I...
[He may not have asked to leave.]
My conviction remains the same. Although I have to ask, now-- if I still choose to defect, what will happen? Will I still count as your follower for the purpose of removing one, or would you be forced to choose the other and be left with none?
[At the question, Piety is able to regain some of his usual composure.]
I didn't doubt you'd pick up on it...but that is quite a loophole, isn't it? The rules only state I have to lose a follower. It says nothing of that follower being eliminated from the competition. Having already known your plans to defect this Sunday, I thought...this could work in everyone's favor.
--then this truly means no more lives must be lost.
[Ishi exhales a heavy sigh of relief, there, a smile returning to his face; this is honestly the best outcome that he could hope for, even though he still regrets that he has to leave.]
Truth be told, I was uncertain that it might work in such a way, but... I am greatly relieved that it will.
[he did this fully believing he might still die, tbh.]
I'm happy to see you smile again...and everyone else will be relieved, as well.
[He's relieved, too. Maybe most of all.]
We're a wonderful team...if it hadn't been for the one who summoned me, even if you'd expressed your will to be voted for, things may not have turned out quite as well as they did.
I have the feeling the others think it was me who called you... I do wish I knew who it was myself, though. I know you cannot say, but I certainly owe them; if everyone had simply had to take my word that I could convince you to choose me, I believe fewer would have been swayed.
[Ishi considers for several moments, then asks-]
Do you know if everyone else will be made aware of my defection, then, when I am not killed?
[He has his fingers crossed that someone else will... please help keep his god company while he's gone...
Ishi nods, though. I definitely just realized he started this off holding Piety's hands but you know what? I'm not changing that. It's still happening.]
I assumed as much, but I was unsure if it would outright be explained. I will accept it if it happens, though-- it seems a fair enough trade for living.
[I can't believe I'm going to be able to say that Ishi's hands have been held and terrorize people now this is great tbh
He exhales a sigh, there, nodding.]
I... had gotten that impression, honestly, considering a thing or two he's said when we've spoken. Perhaps those of us with long lives are simply more prone to it.
[joke's on you i'm 2 years old and the saddest damn person i know]
Thank you--I'm really relieved to hear it. He focuses so much of his energy on those he feels the need to protect that he doesn't save enough for himself. What he needs...is someone who believes in him.

[At least, assuming that nobody else joins his team.]
In either case, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason is explained outright. Your new alignment, of course, will not be revealed.

Merriment will look after you.
[Piety clenches his hands inside of Ishi's.]
Sometimes, despite his title...he can be prone to melancholy. I hope your presence will cheer him the way that it cheers me.

...then I will.
[He nods, slow and deliberate.]
You have my word on that.
