It is something I felt a bit selfish asking for, but-- you and Piety are not the only ones I would hate to leave behind.
[he has kids he has to be responsible for, especially taka.]
And I have thought of the same thing. If Piety regained a follower and I was known to be following someone whose numbers changed-- I feel it would be clear I rejoined him, and someone else might force me away again. He is at least safe as long as he still has Luke.
It's not selfish. You saved two people last night...even if someone else got to Ruin. That's...you shouldn't be punished for that. No way. People need you and I think people will see that.
[There's a huff though.] We can figure out the math later if it really comes to that. I'm hoping we can avoid it all together.
[it still feels like a failure, but he's doing his best to focus on the fact that taka was kept safe, that they took out someone willing to go after the gods.]
But you are right. It may not even be something we need to consider. First, we need to get through the trial.
[...he glances down to himself there, brow furrowed. ishi also needs to get through it physically-- he is highly likely to end up spending several hours on the ground, in this state.
but anyway!]
Have you decided if you would like to be called upon?
Believe it. [Or else. But Jack nods and even though he was expecting the question, he's unsure of how exactly to answer.]
...only if it's absolutely necessary. I don't want to show up only to screw everything up and make it worse for you and Taka. You get that, don't you? [He'd defend those two with his life, but he can't do anything to help them if he says the wrong thing at the wrong time.]
Whatever it takes. Piety would vouch for you just as well as I could, I think...he might just be a little more helpful about it.
I don't think anybody's going to blame you if you pass out for a while. Some of you got wrecked out in the woods a few days ago. I doubt you'd be the only one.

[he exhales heavily, there.]
Perhaps after that I will try to be unconscious for the rest of the day.
[ishi would Love to sleep until the trial, thanks.]
