Hmm? Oh, yeah. Senri was going to be the one to ask you, but if you want to say it now, I don't mind... especially since I don't know if it'll be on Senri's mind anymore.
[especially since he. seems rather conflicted on beauty now?]
...keeping secrets. That is my specialty. It simply means there are things that can be said or done and I have the ability to ensure those actions are never spoken of or heard by unwanted parties.
However. That's only when I wish to enact it, and I myself try not to keep many secrets of my own.
I don't think it's a big deal, for the record. He seems to take it personally that you let it happen, assuming that was the case, but my understanding was that if you did, it was nothing personal.
[though a part of him hates himself for asking. there's no reason to—it's the sort of thing you'd ask if it happened to a friend.
he doesn't resent senri for the lies. but now, he's realized, perhaps he should've taken better care to keep his relationships with others more distant, instead of trying to live up to an ideal he was never suited for.]
...since it was said in the trial, I can confirm that's true, yes. However, it wasn't intended to go this way, and I plan to speak with Senri-kun myself when he feels he can forgive me.
[Hm...] It was my understanding you had a power placed upon you as well? [What does that have to do with anything.]
Context-dependent. I know that Yu chose me because I prefer logic above all else, and I don't regret that. Likewise if he'd just drawn a name out of a hat.
But if I'd made some kind of a stupid mistake that made him decide to target me, it might be a different story.
[There's a nod.] I find it interesting that you first asked if I knew that Senri was keeping secrets from you before asking if he had been affected by a power of my own. It begs to question...do my answers change your mind and opinion of him?
No. He was playing smart by lying. Unfortunately for him, he possibly slipped up enough that someone decided to force him to tell the truth—though I can only guess at why he was targeted.
That's all.
[he means it too. in the end, ray was the one who had been careless.]
I know precisely why he was targeted and it's not a method I approve of. [But that aside...]
In a game like this, information is the most precious resource. In order to earn a bit, you have to give a bit, and Senri-kun is still learning how to balance in moderation. You're more sensible that way from what I've noticed. But...I do think there's something you can learn from one another.
[Suddenly Beauty rises to their feet, tall and graceful as they begin to pace the room. Their arms fold behind their back as they walk.]
Allow me to tell you the cautionary tale of the Third Son. [With their head high, they begin though the tone is light.] Once upon a time, a young man was born under the stars of the scorpion and the archer. However, in line ahead of him were his siblings; an older sister, and two older brothers. These two older brothers were favored by the head of the family, and they were provided with great opportunities for the future. The third son, however, was limited and given very few choices to live outside of his means. He had a role in life, and he was expected to never live outside of that role. He was to support his two brothers, and never break beyond his frame.
Years passed and the third son found himself existing in the shadows of his elder brothers. He had resigned himself to the role he was to play, believing there was no reason to pursue anything beyond the expectations set before him. He was not in line to be the heir, and he was to follow the wishes of his family. He became cold, complacent and calculating, believing himself to have found his role in life.
One day, the third son met with a prince from a foreign land who knew nothing of the country he was visiting except for the things he'd heard from his father. This prince had many dreams and wishes to accomplish in this land and chose the third son to be his guide to these wants. The son, though reluctant, met every wish though with the idea there would be political gain to accomplish. As time went on, the son grew frustrated by the prince's attitude, angry at the carefree way of living the prince carried through life and the apparent ease of which he would become the heir of his father's kingdom. Agitated that the prince wasn't taking his own role seriously, one day the son snapped when the prince made note that the son had given up so easily.
The son said: "It has nothing to do with me giving up or not…it’s just the way it has to be. You wouldn’t understand. Not as someone who has the natural privilege of a first born heir.” The prince corrected his mistake, but the son became more enraged. The son felt as though he had been lied to because the prince didn’t disclose everything, but rather kept the cards close to his chest and embraced everything with as much optimism as he could.
“If you’re so wonderful, then why don’t you work harder to be accepted? Why do you have such a defeatist attitude? You’re different from me. If you try hard enough, there’s no stopping you from rising to the top. Why can’t you comprehend how lucky you are?”
Though the prince deserved such an outburst, something troubled his heart as he looked into the eyes of the son. He said, “Who actually forbids you? If you can surpass expectations, then go ahead. You are the one who isn’t putting in enough effort. You are the one who’s giving up without a fight.”
The son couldn't refute the argument, and as he considered this prospect it became clear to both of them that they needed one another. The prince to help the son reach for his potential, and the son to protect the prince and follow through with his ideas, curbing them to ensure they were prosperous.
[Beauty stops pacing them, looking toward the window with his back to Ray.]
...even those in the most fortunate of situations need others, Ray-kun. I believe Senri-kun can learn to be more crafty and logical by befriending you, and I believe you can learn to become more than you are by befriending him, and others. But that's simply through observation.
[ray listens. with that said, when he sees where this is going, he begins to look increasingly annoyed.]
... If that's the case, then you should've brought Emma here! She and I—she could've done all that!
[he's her wits, and she's his heart. without her, he has no ideals to speak of, beyond survival and protecting his family—and to achieve that, the best solution would simply be to kill everyone here.]
Besides, it's not like that guy has any lack of people who care about him. Takaomi, Sasuke... if you need people to teach him how to be more practical, they should already have that covered. It doesn't need to be me—not even remotely.
[It's fine, this is sort of the reaction Beauty responded. It's a moment of letting Ray yell, a moment that Beauty watches Ray and simply gives a "tut"ing sort of noise.]
And yet you still came to me because you were concerned about what happened, and you continue to speak with him and take cues from him. [Such as visiting Beauty himself or the like.] Unless I'm wrong?

okay no he doesn't do that, but you know. the idea probably occurred to him.]
I'm done with that. From now on, I'll do things my own way.
