[He notices that. FOR ONCE, THE NAME SEEMS TO MATCH THE PERSONALITY. But he'll hold his breath. He's already been surprised three times in a row. Why wouldn't this be any different?]
Another player is here who shouldn't be. I need them kept alive.
[He sounds... a little too casual about it, though there's enough Off about his tone to know he's not joking.]
I'm not asking for rules to be rewritten. I just need a failsafe. Something to either keep consequences off of him, or redirect them somewhere else.
I hardly expect it to be free. I'm willing to listen to your price.
If this is something you can do, then the least I can do in return is offer allegiance, when I'm able. If you expect more, then I'll have to give more.
[Oh. Ohoho, this is interesting. This is exciting.
...this is familiar.]
Little ironic that you're asking me this. [It's mumbled, but just like that, he moves on.] But calculative. Strategic. I like it.
[On the other hand...] We have some rules of our own in place. Dunno if King Moron has told you about them, but they're there. That's why the masks and the secrecy and all of this bullshit. I don't know if my powers can keep him alive forever, but...
[But?] Switch to me, and I can give you an insight if anyone goes after him. Think of it as a heads up so you can plan a counter-attack. It'll be enough to call in favors and test your strengths, and give you enough time to plan.
[He cares for Luke. He wants to trust that he can make the right decisions. But knowing what he's just done to himself, what might be still weighing on his mind, what awaits the boy if either of them lose...
...
He couldn't do anything to stop Luke last time. He'd never forgive himself if he didn't at least try to step in to things now. Would Luke forgive him if he ever found out? Probably not.
So he would just have to make sure Luke never found out.
He stays silent for a long moment, looking the god over with a tired but determined gaze as he turns the offer over in his mind. He could make it work, but...
...]
Indulgence shared a lot, but nothing about any sort of rules that pertained to himself, or to you.
Could you explain? I'm sure you'd understand why I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into.
Of course I understand, Guy, but I can't give you everything in one shot. Goes against our own rules. [But he's not unwilling.] What're you hoping to learn first? Questions seem to work better than giving us free reign to say whatever.
[Mildly frustrating, but that's an answer in itself, he supposes. The god could be pulling his chain out of not wanting to answer, sure, but it could also be because of an inability to answer.]
I assume if you wanted things to be completely impartial, you wouldn't be approaching us individually in the way you did. So does that mean the rules you have to follow are meant more to keep the playing field too unbalanced? [As he sees it, if someone took proper initiative like this, they could be given an advantage to the degree of what they offered in return. But maybe there was a hard limit to keeping someone from outright cheating, even in favor of another.]
The rules we have are meant for us to make sure we aren't using "unfair methods" to cheat. The masks are meant so we can't use our looks, we can't say certain things because they could be used for sympathy points, and we can't interfere too much with another god's doing. We don't know what you guys say to us individually unless you tell us or we talk amongst ourselves.
It's all in how you play the game. The rules become looser the more we talk to you guys, I think, once we have your allegiance. Looser rules, more answers, bigger gain. Make sense?
Fairly. [That seems to be the main sticking point.] I want a world where people aren't ignored when they ask for help, where people are going to be listened to and where things are remembered based on the effort put in. I plan on running a world where respect's earned and not given out freely and a world where nobody's left behind or forgotten just because it's "how things are supposed to be."
It's going to be a better world than the other gods.

There's also a sword so like. That also has his attention and he's split between looking at that and also at Guy.]
Depends on the favor, depends what's in it for me, and also your patron's a moron so that's a real shocker. [Not.]

What do you plan to do, then, if you were to win? How would you want to run things?
