I'm alive which is better than usual. [Hm.] And Guy's still alive, so I'm a little less worried about that. It's been a weird week with the whole "cat who came back" thing.

Tell me about it. You've got, what, five known murderers left alive now? At some point you guys have to learn to live with each other.

That's why the idea of justice is kinda skewed.

... it was kind of bound to happen, especially considering how many deaths we didn't get to solve during trial. People still don't know who killed Bart, too, although that one seems less likely to come out...

Shit, make that six. [He shakes his head.] That's the thing about justice and "doing the right thing" sometimes. Depending on what reason you tell everybody, you're either regarded as a hero, or a villain, even if it's the same thing. Look at what happened to Guy versus how people are treating Sasuke.

... mm. Luke outing him didn't help Guy either, since people feeling bad for Luke's position in it all painted Guy in a more negative light.

[ kind of similar to how people seem more forgiving of sasuke than ishi ]

Can we make it a ground rule to stop using the other guy's name? It's weird. [But anyway.] But yeah, can't disagree with that. In the end people will believe what they wanna believe even if murder's still murder.

But we still have a few more days. If you guys can keep it together until then...we'll see what the final outcome can be.

It's entirely possible. Depends on how you guys feel about each other and about us. That's the thing about competition, Taka. Who you're playing against can change at the very last minute.

... I'd like to think the rule on revenge will stop people, since that's the only reason I can think of as to why someone might do it.

Considering last week, yeah. It was a smart rule, I almost wish I'd thought of it. Not that we would've needed it back then.

…revenge is a lot of why wars and competitions like this start anyway. Maybe we should've thought of that from the start.

... well, it's not like you guys could have predicted how this would go.

We were fighting in a war back in my world right before the ascension. A few years before the final battle, some asshole stole Zeus's lightning bolt to get the gods to turn on each other and miss the bigger picture. Think I told you that part, yeah?

What they missed was a resurrection of the lord of the titans who was coming back to tear down Olympus and start a new golden age. Be a better and new ruler. Don't know how up to date you are on mythology, but it's history for us. You have Gaea. You have the giants. You have the tians. And then the Olympians.

The planning of the resurrection went on for a while before the first steps were taken. The titan, Kronos, had been hacked to pieces and sent to Tartarus. He needed time to basically be put back together and come back to his full power. Without it, and without a body, he wasn't exactly going anywhere.

Took about…five years for him to get somewhere. When he did, he was the most powerful being around and had raised a bunch of armies made up of monsters and other demigods to begin the attack on Manhattan. A bunch of the kids from Camp started joining the Olympians to defend Olympus…whole big mess.

Didn't stop Kronos from getting to the throne room though to start destroying everything. [But that's more than he's ever said so he's stopping to let Taka take all of that in.]

he listens along, nodding his head, although there is a... bad feeling he's getting, considering luke has been hinting for several conversations that he wasn't really one of the good guys back home. ]

And what happened?

You wanna know why I hate fate and prophecies so much? Shit like that. When you have something like that over your head, the whole thing gets messy. Everyone I know was tied into something like that. A lot of lives were ruined that way.

[Another drink just to stall.] Anyway, there was a fight in the throne room. The champions of Olympus versus Kronos. Kronos was supposed to kill those two kids but he didn't get the chance to.

[ ... it's things like this that makes him glad he's from somewhere fairly normal. ]

Did... someone else interfere, or...?

Technically I did. A combination of me and Annabeth is what really did it.

[Hey Francy why does Taka always get the backstories.]

Kinda had to to stop him, yeah. It's what happens when you're the host body. [Shrug!] If it wasn't for Annabeth I…he…whoever would've won, but she pulled me back long enough to regain control and end it myself.

[Life's fun when you kill yourself to save the world. Who's bitter? Not him! Really!] So I cheated my way out of an afterlife and I got to pick this instead. Figured it was a better deal, but it took a while to figure everything else out.

And then this game started and...well. You know the rest.

Tell me about it. ...I only met my dad once. Ignored me for most of my life except the one time he came to my mom's house. I was only there grabbing supplies, I left when I was nine. Guy knew all about my fate but wouldn't tell me anything about it. Never saw him after that.

Met another guy before that. Son of Apollo, actually. He also knew my fate and refused to tell me much about it.

Gods have a funny way of demanding so much from you and giving you shit for your effort. I'm not letting that happen in the new world.
