You were all confused, it's only natural in that kind of environment, and with so few clues, so little information. But I think, ultimately, you would have come to the correct conclusion.
[Although their expression is hidden, there's a softness in their voice that indicates a smile.]
Maybe it's just who I am, but I believe in you all.
It's not quite so simple. The only people who could be brought forward were those who were willing to accept our invitation to compete. Those who had something to fight for, whether or not they knew it. We simply sent out the call...and you were the ones who answered. From that pool of champions, we each put bids in against one another in order to offer our patronage to a certain number of you. That way, each of us had an equal chance of starting with an even number.
[Not that they didn't end up skewed in the long run.]
You were the ones who said yes, the ones who were strongest in their convictions.
[They all had that special something!]
It's hard to describe...to put into words how it happened. It was less a method and more of a feeling. Not conscious thought that chose you. It was more like...gravity. Does that make any kind of sense?
Just belief. My name, unfortunately, holds such a strong connotation with religion that I think others are hesitant to speak with me, let alone switch, but my feelings extend to beliefs of all kinds. When I was still a mortal, my belief was always in that of humanity: their capacity to learn and grow, their compassion...and those traits that I would see in those closest to me, above all.

It's not your fault, seriously. You told us everything you could. And... We got it right. Who knows if that would have happened without you?

[But she smiles regardless, grateful.]
It means a lot, though. I guess you all decided to bring people you thought would be useful here, right?

Right, but... There was some criteria for who even got the invitation in the first place, right?

You mean you gravitated more towards people who had strong feelings?

Yes. I think those both would have worked just as well.
[And honestly "hope" might have appealed to more people but...you get what you get.]

[She pauses.]
Then again, Ruin probably would have picked something like Happiness.
