[Nonon enters the armory and finds a tall figure with the origami fox in the palm of their hand, leaning against a wall of swords and turning the fox this way and that. Even before Nonon speaks, they begin.]

How did you even fold this to look right? [This god knows fuckall about origami.]

[ She had fuckall idea of what to offer to Cunning, so she's glad this wasn't a complete miss. ]

It took a while, but I had time on my hands last week to figure it out.

[ If she can't play music, she has to find something to do with her hands!!! ]

It's all about squares and triangles.

[Cunning is sort of a dick, but Cunning seems to be enthralled with this little paper puzzle of an animal.]

Soooo kind of like paper math. Angles and how they all fit together. Not the most useless use of time. [The god strides across the room, putting the fox down on the table near the weapons log.]

Nonon, right? What brings you here?

Yes, that's it. [ To Nonon, it's just about using paper to make something even prettier, but she knows the geometry of it interests others. ] The really traditional keep it all to folds and thinking using cuts or marking the paper is cheating.

[ She claps her hands behind her back. ]

I wanted to talk to you. I don't think it's a bad idea to see what you're like.

Kind of impressive. I've never been big on paper but paper art's a little different.

[That's an interesting answer though.] You're not wrong, but try telling that to everybody else who isn't brave enough to try. Also fulfills your requirement to talk to a new god, doesn't it?

You got me there. It does. I took the new rule as a challenge, and the others should, too. If you want something enough, you have to go at it with all you've got.

[ Even a lioness will use all her strength when hunting a rabbit. ]

That's the kind of attitude I like to see in this game. What's the point of playing if you're not going to try in the end? You all agreed to be here, but you'd be surprised how many of you are balking at the idea that this game might not be as perfect as you want it to be.

I didn't expect it be a perfect or nice game, but I also didn't expect it take quite as drastic a turn as it did. [ Even if she thought the possibility was always there. She just... doesn't want all this killing. ] Is this the kind of game you were hoping for?

Sounds like you've had experience with some hard times. [Nice.] I wouldn't say I was hoping for it, but this wasn't exactly out of the realm of possibility. Never has been, never will be. The game was always meant to be a challenge instead of a handout. If we have to fight for it, why shouldn't you guys? Just to make it all fair.

Well, I was ready to die at home, fighting for what I wanted, so it's not like the stakes here are unfamiliar to me. [ It's just she has never wanted to die. She was only willing and ready for it. ]

I've never been one to mistake fairness for kindness, but did you expect a god to lose all their followers so soon?

Not hard to see why you were picked in that case. [Interesting thought.]

But no, I never did. Well maybe that's not true, I expected it but I didn't expect it to be Fortune. That was the surprising thing and it changes the name of the game again.

I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. [ This game gives a lot of conflicting and complicated feelings. ]

Who did you expect it to be?

Honestly? One of us with the less-than-perfect name. Do you know how hard it is to get people to actually form opinions outside of whatever name we're aligned with?

From the first couple of trials... Pretty hard. First impressions are hard to break, even fake ones.

[ She clasps her hands behind her back. ]

Disorder's rule is a very good play.

Disorder's one of the smartest girls I've ever met in that she knows exactly what she wants and how to play it. She recognized the problem way before anybody else and made a solution. [Proud boyfriend? Proud boyfriend.] How're we supposed to appeal ourselves if people aren't going to bother coming to see us? Harder than it looks.

[ That's cute. If only Nonon could care enough to ship them. ]

Hmm~ How long have you two been dating?

[ She could be asking useful questions, but is she? ]

A little after the ascension? I never had time to date before that and it's still an adjustment period.

[See: Cunning probably wouldn't have called himself a boyfriend unless Disorder did first.]

That's cute. Your first date is as a god.

[ She feels like that could be a sitcom. ]

Would you believe me if I said it's because this is the first time I can actually relax? [And yet here they are. He apparently doesn't care about Nonon being like this, it's better than asking real questions.]

This is supposed to relaxing to you? [ Her eyebrows raise. ] Well, I don't know what your life was like before, so I guess I don't have any real reason not to.

[ Outside of being contrary. ]

At least I know what's going on and I'll know if something's coming after me. Besides, the temple's a little nicer than what I left behind. I can't complain too much.

[symphonise]

[ ... ]

You must have had some kind of terrible life before here. That's kind of....

[ It sounds like there was a very low bar set by Cunning's past life. ]

Not what you expected? Let me guess. The other gods made their lives sound a lot better.

[Cunning has a lot of feelings about his past life, apparently.]

[symphonise]

Well, not all of them have talked about their past lives, but they don't usually outright say, "My life sucked."

[ She can tell that maybe Cunning has a lot of negative feelings about his past, yeah. ]

You've been the most forthright about it even if you haven't given any details.

There's the whole rule about not giving out too much info too fast because people blab too much, but I guess my life has enough detail to it that even saying "it sucked" doesn't count as a spoiler. [His mask is in the way, but he's rolling his eyes.]

And anyway when I used to tell people about my life, they didn't believe me. So that's probably part of it, too.
