[Indulgence bursts out with that so intently that he completely glosses over that first big.]
One of 'em, first of all, we never spoke. For reasons I'm not at liberty to say because of "rules" or whatever, it had nothing to do with me that they chose to leave. Absolutely, completely unfair. The other one, your guess is as good as mine. Last time we talked, everything was peachy! We were happy as clams!
Clearly someone made 'em an offer they couldn't refuse.
[ touchy spot, huh... majima can't blame him. it's a numbers game, after all. but speaking of games... he bows his head, eye closed. ]
Indulgence-han. I think it's safe to say we've got a special bond, yeah? From what I've been hearin' from a lotta lil' birdies, some of ya are tryin' to stay as civil as possible, and some of ya just wanna watch the world burn. [ he pauses to lift his gaze and address his god directly. ] Can I, with as much respect as I'm capable of showin', ask ya how ya feel about this game?
Which baffles the hell outta me, since, uh, doy? My whole shtick is that I can get people whatever they want.
[The nerve of some people.]
Ugh, groan.
[Indulgence leans back on his hands.]
Why does everything always have to be so personal? Alright, so here's the thing. Definitely not looking for the destruction of all life as we know it. I mean, who's going to throw an epic dance party when that dance party has no dancers? And there'd be nobody afterward to come around saying hey man, nice party. So what's the point? But at the same time, I'm not interested in getting touchy-feely and sharing all the ins and outs of my super tragic, super relatable backstory because News Flash, nobody cares, and the people who do care are probably suckers anyway.
[ :T ]
We could be playing anything and as long as I won, because I'm the only one who should be in charge in the first place, it wouldn't make much of a difference to me. It's not my fault that about half of us are wilting flowers and the other half can't get out of bed in the morning unless they've had their fresh cup of the blood of innocents to get them really roused and ready for their day.
[ not being drunk or under any other sort of influence sure makes a lot of difference when talking to indulgence, majima realizes. taking the god fully at face value... it's a hell of a trip, he can say that much.
but as much as he thinks indulgence could maaaybe take it down a notch or two, he can't really fault him? it shocks him how much he agrees with his patron's philosophy. why spend your time worrying about everyone around you when taking care of yourself takes up 90% of your life? it's a viewpoint that majima has encountered in the past, and the person who presented it then left a big mark on him... coming across it again in indulgence almost like a bit of divine deja vu.
who knew a single question would result in so many thinky thoughts to think on. ]
Thanks for bein' honest with me, boss. Since ya took the time to answer me so earnestly, I feel it's only fair... ya got anythin' to ask of me?
[I can't believe that they're so well matched. Like, what is this. What's happening.]
Hey, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not always exactly the easiest to talk to, but that doesn't mean I'm a liar. Keeping track of all the stories you're making up for people? That takes waaay too much effort. If I want to lie about something I'll have someone else do it for me.
[But, that's not the point.]
I gotta ask, after I did lose followers, and since I haven't been exactly holding back a flood of others hoping to get a coveted spot...are you happy?
I MISSED THIS... and also apparently left it to rot while i went to work
[ he makes sure to look indulgence in the eye for this response, his smile wry. ]
Ya haven't done me wrong yet, Indulgence-han. Besides, I can relate to ya more than ya might think. Guess it was just natural I chose to follow you, yeah? What more could a guy ask for?
