The purpose was the same, but initially, I'd simply put in the suggestion that we allow mortals to decide which of us they felt most befitting, to avoid any interpersonal biases.

Not exactly, no. But the idea to turn it into such a grand sort of competition got out of hand too fast for me or those who agreed with me to backtrack, and there was no talking the others out of it. To some of them, the need to overpower or outmaneuver one another outweighs their better judgment.

And how would you have rather made your case, assuming that you gathered all of us up the same way? You must have thought of some way we would be able to decide that wasn't this, if it was your idea originally. A poll it might have been, but we'd have to have something to base our opinions off of.

Yes. That's why it would be a poll that would take place over the course of several weeks, allowing everyone the time to form their own opinions of us and our competency for the position we're arguing over.

Displays of power are fine when we're demonstrating our abilities in relation to how we will rule over our ideal world...but not when we're using those powers for bribery and coercion.

But, really...I've found one of the simplest, easiest ways to form opinions is just to talk to someone. I supposed...perhaps naively, if we all spent time seriously communicating with one another, a proper solution could have been made.
... Six weeks of debate and discussion, huh. I suppose that'd be a little closer to the vacation Patience suggested we think of this as. And here I thought it would be petty or presumptuous to call the gods down too often over trivial things and small talk.
