The purpose was the same, but initially, I'd simply put in the suggestion that we allow mortals to decide which of us they felt most befitting, to avoid any interpersonal biases.
[They bring a hand to their forehead.]
It was meant to be a poll, not a contest, but everyone got carried away.
Not exactly, no. But the idea to turn it into such a grand sort of competition got out of hand too fast for me or those who agreed with me to backtrack, and there was no talking the others out of it. To some of them, the need to overpower or outmaneuver one another outweighs their better judgment.
i'm tagging this knowing FULL well i'm dropping an offering today as well
A show of strength or skill to qualify the most deserving party as opposed to someone else...
[ ... a small sigh, but he crosses his arms and leans back in his seat. ]
And how would you have rather made your case, assuming that you gathered all of us up the same way? You must have thought of some way we would be able to decide that wasn't this, if it was your idea originally. A poll it might have been, but we'd have to have something to base our opinions off of.
[ because yes, your titles may possibly be a little misleading. ]
Yes. That's why it would be a poll that would take place over the course of several weeks, allowing everyone the time to form their own opinions of us and our competency for the position we're arguing over.
[Piety sighs, as well.]
Displays of power are fine when we're demonstrating our abilities in relation to how we will rule over our ideal world...but not when we're using those powers for bribery and coercion.
[Giving a slight chuckle, they shake their head.]
But, really...I've found one of the simplest, easiest ways to form opinions is just to talk to someone. I supposed...perhaps naively, if we all spent time seriously communicating with one another, a proper solution could have been made.
... Six weeks of debate and discussion, huh. I suppose that'd be a little closer to the vacation Patience suggested we think of this as. And here I thought it would be petty or presumptuous to call the gods down too often over trivial things and small talk.
[ It's a little wry, but not reproachful or pointed. They knew what they were signing up for, after all, though- maybe not quite as much the socializing part, since he's kept more of a distance from the gods than some others. ]
What would your ideal world be, if I may ask? What does your vision of a perfect world look like?

[ He thoughtfully rests his head on a hand- his right- as his left drums out aimless rhythms on the other arm rest. ]
"10. Have faith in each other."
That one's yours, isn't it? Funny thing to keep in mind, if we're supposed to be in competition with each other.

[Hearing the rule recited, Piety lets out a soft laugh.]
I could see how it would seem that way. But it's because, initially, this was never intended to be a competition.
tfw this is relevant at trial sweats,
this is fine

Everyone? You mean you were alone in wanting something so simple?
