[ He'll nod slow and shallow as he closes the distance between them -- though not too much. Carefully he keeps a certain amount of space between them, but he's close enough to be sure she can see him.
And once he does he'll bow low, concentrating so he can murmur: ]

[ And he'll hold himself there for a long moment before slowly straightening. ]
... to the Japanese, apologies are very important. I guess you could say they're part of our culture. We have many different ways of apologizing and expressing regrets, and you should always apologize right away if you've made some kind of mistake. The bigger the mistake, the more grave the apology.
[ Yu laughs softly, a humorless sound. ]
What I just said to you... it was something like, "There's no excuse for what I've done, and I'm extremely sorry." And this formal kind of apology ... I guess you could say it would be for someone important, or someone you really respect.
[ ... ]
I'm sure it's not enough on its own. But I had to start there.
[The look she's giving him is probably something that screams "did you seriously just talk Japanese at me when I just said I don't know it," but it's impossible to tell that behind the mask. She crosses her arms and waits for him to finish.]
