Sort of...there was a dog where I came from, before this, but he wasn't really mine, and I'm not sure what breed he was. And he was the only dog I'd ever met before. I just really liked him a lot.
[ ... is Justice okay? Yu will start to reach out, but pause when nothing further seems to happen. ]
... I had to find ways to occupy my time, when I was younger. Eventually, I picked up origami as a way to keep my hands busy. [ a brief pause, and: ] I haven't done it recently, but I think I could make a dog, if I had paper to use.
Everyone's lived different lives, after all. They've had different experiences, and felt different things... a bad thing for one person might be seen as a good thing, to another.
[ ... thoughtfully ]
I guess it really depends on what you're talking about.
No, not at all. I think that's a great place to start. Even if "bad things" can be subjective, you'll still find ideas where lots of people agree. And that's okay, too.
[ Yu will move to their side. He doesn't reach out, and he doesn't come too close; he comes just close enough to let Justice know that he's standing with them. Beside them. ]
I do. I may not know you very well just yet, but I can tell your feelings and your conviction are real. You may not be my god, but I meant what I said about my support for you. If there's something I can do, even just as your friend, I'll do it. [ ... ]
More than that, though... I think you won't need it. [ a reassuring smile. ]
Yu lets go a silent breath he didn't realize he was holding when Justice doesn't complete that thought. The way they rally warms Yu all through, and, disarmed, he'll let a sudden grin take over his mouth. ]
That's exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm proud of you, Justice.
[Hearing "I'm proud of you" is such a startling set of words to hear that Justice stammers, nearly dropping all of the papers. But with what sounds like a lump in their throat, they pull themselves together and reach for Yu's hand with their tiny one.]
Let's go get started. It's not science, but...but I want it to be in the lab with all the other creations, too.
[ That's the first time it really registers. There were other things, small things, tugging at the bottom of his thoughts, none of it utterly conclusive. But now Yu will take their hand without thinking, with all the careful warmth an older brother can muster, and it hits him right in the chest: their hand is so tiny.
Could it be that Justice is ... just a child?
Something like a furious horror unfurls in his chest, but he doesn't let the smallest piece of it show on his face or in the way he carries himself. You'd never know a thing was wrong to look at him. He'll give that little hand a squeeze. ]
You know, origami is all about precise folds and careful decisions. It's art, but it can be a science, too. I think it's perfect to keep in the lab. Come on.
[ Gently he'll urge Justice on, so the god leads them back. ]

I see... he was a friend.
[ look, he's besties with a fox, he gets it ]
... what do you do with your spare time, Justice?
no subject
[Justice tilts their head to the side, bringing up an arm to support it as if he's about to lose balance.]
What about you?

[A bashful pause, and Justice peers toward the door.]
Will you show me, if we get some paper from the study?
no subject
You read my mind. It would be nice to have a friend I can fold origami with.
no subject
Let's go! I want to learn all about it!

You should think about the other kinds of things you want to make. Flowers, birds, cats, dogs, stars, envelopes, boxes, boats...
We can think about other hobbies you might like, too.

... oh.
Yu doesn't want to immediately assign significance to that, but boy, it's hard. The thought tugs at his heartstrings. ]
Of course. They can be as simple or complex as you like. With enough time, I'm sure you could create a whole village.

[As they reach the study, Justice takes particular care as they open the door.]
I'll make sure nothing bad happens.

Yu will stay silent as they enter the study. Mostly, he's thinking over what he wants to say, picking his words carefully. ]
Is that what you want, from this game? To stop bad things happening?
no subject
[Justice moves to the desk drawer and starts pulling out pieces of loose parchments.]
Doesn't everyone want to stop bad things from happening?

I don't understand. How could it mean something different for different people?

I guess it really depends on what you're talking about.

[Justice turns back away again, looking down at the delicate sheets of paper in their hands.]
I know you aren't on my team, and don't want to be, so it's not me you actually want to win but still, do you think I could do it?

[They pause, making an emotional noise that's not quite a cry.]
No, nevermind. If you believe in me, I have to do my best! That's the right thing to do, and I won't give up for even a single second!
[They thrust the stack of papers over their head, into the air.]
So first thing's first: we build a foundation!

No time like the present to get started, right?
